Copying Components and Macros

When you copy an object, you add a duplicate of the object to the current design. You can copy components and macros.

Copying Components

When you copy a component, you duplicate the logical contents of one IOB or CLB source into another IOB or CLB target. Both components must be programmable. The source is a placed or unplaced component. The target may can a vacant site or a placed component. Connections are not copied; only the programming of the component.

The target must be the same type of component as the source: an IOB and an IOB, or a CLB and another CLB. If the target is a site, it is programmed as a copy of the source. In the process, a new component is created. If the target is a placed component, its programming is overwritten by the source component's logic.

To copy a component, perform the following steps.

  1. Select the component you want to copy. This is the source component.

  2. Select the component or site into which you want to copy the source component's logic. This is the target.

  3. Invoke the Copy command in one of the following ways.

Copying Macros

Copying macros is described in the “Copying Macros” section of the “Working with Physical Macros” chapter.
