Building a PROM File

You build a PROM file by adding BIT files and data streams to the PROM description area in the PROM File Formatter window. A data stream can contain one or more BIT files. A data stream that contains multiple files is referred to as a daisy chain.

To build the PROM file, you add BIT files to the data stream in the PROM description area. You can also create additional data streams, and add BIT files to them.

The size of a data stream is indicated as part of the Data Stream entry in the PROM description area. After you add a file to a data stream, the data stream size is updated to include the data in the added file.

Adding a BIT File to a Data Stream

  1. In the hierarchical display in the file selection area, select the BIT file you want to add to the data stream.

    You can only select one BIT file at a time.

  2. In the PROM description area, select the entry below which you will add the BIT file.

    To add the BIT file to the end of a data stream, select the End entry for the data stream.

  3. Select Edit Add Bit File. The BIT file appears in the PROM description area. The Xilinx device for which the BIT file was created is included in this BIT file entry.


    NOTE

    You can also add a BIT file by selecting the PROM description area entry below which you will add the BIT file, then double-clicking the BIT file you want to add.


On a PC only, you can add a BIT file to a data stream by dragging the file from the file selection area into the PROM description area, then dropping the file into the desired position in the data stream. As you move the file into the PROM description area, an arrow to the left of the display indicates the position at which the BIT file will be placed.

Adding a New Data Stream

To add a new data stream, select Edit Add Data Stream.

A new data stream is added to the end of the PROM file, and this data stream appears in the PROM description area. You can move BIT files into this new data stream.

The new data stream is used to reconfigure a single device or daisy chain of devices for a new function.
